Time to go home

For the last two days we just drove. First from France to Denmark via Belgium, the Netherlands and Germany, and then from Denmark to Sweden. The first ride lasted for 12 hours and was getting quite heavy for us, and when we finally got to Kolding in Denmark, it was already 8 PM. In Germany the traffic was bad around 5 PM and we thought it would have been nicer to drive at night with only the trucks on the road. At the hotel (Comwell), they were still serving dinner for another 30 minutes, but they said we could choose only white fish or pork. We chose fish and pasta once again for the boys and a bottle of white wine. The food was eatable, but definitely not worth the 160 euros it cost us!! What a nasty surprise again the next morning when we checked out. The hotel room was big and the service was immaculate, and the boys really liked the swimming pool they had, but the dinner was totally overpriced.

The second day's ride to Stockholm in Sweden took us 9 hours. We only stopped a few times for toilet and burgers at Burger King. Again it felt like such a long way as on the Swedish highways there is really nothing to see. We were still tired from the previous day's drive and already anxious to get home. It seems that the closer to home you get, the more in a hurry you are! We got a message from our wonderful neighbour saying that everything's well at home and the tomatoes and peas in our garden are ready to be picked. Can't wait!

At Scandic hotel in Bromma (in the outskirts of Stockholm) everything worked nicely. We took the short way in the tram to the nearest Hard Rock Cafe and enjoyed some pulled pork there along with a nice refreshing cocktail. A perfect ending to a wonderful road trip! Nothing got stolen or damaged, the car worked as a dream and the weather was fantastic all the way. AND the kids didn't fight (that much)! Now we're on the ferry back to Turku, Finland, and we've got all the day to enjoy the amusements of the ferry.

Thanks for sharing this journey with us. I hope you liked it. The next big thing will be our cruise in the Caribbean in February, but I'll keep updating the blog until then about smaller trips or just life in general.. Talk to you soon!
