Arrivederci, Italia

Hi guys!

Tonight I don't have much time to write the blog (sorry about it), because I'm getting near to the end of John Irving's In One Person. Not that I would have a lot to tell you this time, either, since the last two days have been almost completely for relaxing, swimming, eating the lovely Toscanan food and reading holiday-novels. ..which is why I have read almost the whole book in just two days. It's the first Irving's book I have ever read, I think, and after getting through the slowly progressing first chapters I simply couldn't put it down. His style is quite different from any other authors' that I'm familiar with and I don't think I really got it at first. At some point I understood the meaning of his way of repeating certain details over and over again, even though in the beginning I found that merely annoying. I must say that the theme of the book isn't very appealing to me, but as a whole it is a great story, great entirety and some inspiring characters. I'll definitely remember this book and sort of keep digesting it for some time. And I still don't know how it will end!

So.. to keep the travelling-part short, tomorrow our week in Tuscany has passed and it's time to move on to our next stop in the morning. We will head to Lausanne in Switzerland via Genova, where I used to study for one semester when I was younger. It feels strange to see that city after so many years; even Italy doesn't feel quite the same country anymore, so maybe the city will also feel different. I hope to see the sea even by glimpse, I love how it looks.

As for this rental villa, which we have stayed in in Carmignano, it is truly a lovely old (but modern and functioning) house. Maybe not that cozy with the large rooms and hard tile-floors and wall paintings, but it was everything that was promised to us. And the scenery.. breathtaking! You can actually see the Duomo in Firenze from here! We loved the pool that was in shade from the burning sun almost all day, and the air-conditioning worked like a dream. Absolutely no problemo with that. Maybe next time I'd like to have a house or apartment nearer to a city centre so that it wouldn't always be a must to move around by car.

Tuscany: perfect weather and lovely food, as always. Friendly people.

The villa: excellent. I can tell you more details about it if you're interested in renting it. Just leave a note in the Comments-field below.
