Finally we're about to set off. The past few weeks have been tremendously busy with me being really, really ill, making arrangements to move our worldly belongings to Norway and, at the same time, trying to make sure that everything has been taken care of concerning the upcoming trip. Life is really hectic, almost chaotic at the moment; precisely the way we like it!
Are you stressed about all this happening at the same time, they ask us? Nope, we are having the time of our lives. Honestly. It's so exciting to know that things are about to change in a BIG way for us and tomorrow will be a start for one of my life-long dreams to come true. Who could ask for more?
The suitcases have been packed. Two big ones, one smaller, and three trolleys. Phew! I, once again, had my list of stuff to be packed, and once again I wondered whether it's absolutely necessary to start writing the list all over again each time we travel. It's kind of a ritual already, like one of those things you need to handle very carefully or otherwise you are doomed to experience some misery during the trip. Not gonna happen to me, since I have the new list. *check* Packing truly gets easier each time. Mom told me today to already start stressing and making a hassle as I was probably taking it too easy. By eight o'clock I was ready to start doing my holiday nails. Also one of the nececcities to prevent shit hitting the fan.
Mom came to stay at ours to take care of the dog for the 2,5 weeks we'll be away. I have dutifully let the dog's hair matt and the nails grow too long, and also our backyard lawn needs trimming and there is plenty of clean laundry to be mangled. Thanks, mom, you're the sweetest!!!
But I was really, really ill last week and Jani has been working around the clock. Things just happen.
Our flight to San Francisco via London Heathrow will leave at 7.55 in the morning. The taxi will pick us up at 5.30. Dear God. We have printed all the travel documents, to be on the safe side, so things should go relative smoothly at the airport before departure. We will have our breakfast in a lounge (one of the positive side effects of husband taking 130 flights a year) and try to avoid the sense of being in a hurry. It is a few hours' flight to London by British Airways, a 4-hour wait at Heathrow, and 11-hour flight forward to San Francisco. And, when we get there, it will be 4 o'clock in the afternoon. We will definitely need some shut-eye on the plane.
I wish you all a lovely Midsummer's Eve, or at least to those of you Finns who can still read at this time.. It is still slightly sunny outside and the birds are singing. It's bloody cold though, but fortunately in Las Vegas it's about +41 C degrees.
