California dreaming...

It's been a reeeaaaally long time since my last post here. I could say that nothing much has happened since then, but I would be lying, so let's just briefly mention that we DID go for a Caribbean cruise last year. It was a fantastic way to celebrate our 10-year anniversary, just the two of us, and I would have loved to share beautiful pictures of Miami, Jamaica, Haiti and Mexico. Unfortunately using the Internet on the cruise ship would have become extremely expensive so I decided to skip blogging and just enjoy. Maybe it was a wise decision as the whole experience was so totally relaxing and comfortable. It is such luxury to be pampered on a cruise!

Last summer we made another road trip to Europe, this time to Normandy in France. We stopped in Billund, Denmark, to spend a couple of days in Legoland, which the kids really liked a lot, and drove again through Germany and Belgium to France. This time the route started to feel almost too familiar and we already recognized some gas stations and restaurants by the highway. But France was different. Nice hills and fields and sunshine and rain one after the other. Ten minutes of sunshine and ten minutes of rain all the time during the drive.

And oh boy, you should have seen the house we had found for rent..!! A 4-storey stone house built a looong time ago, fully renovated (except for air-conditioning!) with a pool and a big green garden. There were so many bedrooms in the house that I couldn't choose which was the best one and the decor was different in each of them. In Normandy there is a lot to see, definitely worth visiting for all WW2 history fans, and a lot to taste. Lovely ciders and mussels and the prices weren't too high. Definitely recommended.

But back to Here and Now. After years of dreaming about it, we are finally going to do it. We have booked flights to San Francisco, California, and we are about to make another road trip. From San Francisco to Yosemite national park, through the mountains to Death Valley and Las Vegas, Hoover Dam, Los Angeles, San Diego, and along the coast back to SF. We have 2,5 weeks to do it, the rental car has been reserved as well as accommodation. We were hoping not to make too many bookings in advance to feel more free to make last-minute changes, but it is said that due to high season it might be pretty crowded there and the idea of sleeping in the car with the kids isn't that appealing... better be safe than sorry!

We still have a few weeks of time before the trip. I am too tired at the moment, in general, to be really excited about the trip yet, but when I stop to think about it, I can't help but smile. I have always wanted to see and feel California. Hollywood and the movie studios. The beautiful coastline. The hottest place in the world (!!) and some mountains in only two days. I have got a new camera and I promise to learn to use it properly before the trip... and to take some breathtaking pictures for you!

And, once again, if you have any suggestions of must-see places and sights, please do tell me.
